Magento Connect October Statistics
As we all know, several changes have been made in Magento Connect on October 13, 2011. Now it has a brand new look, design, search, and navigation. But as they say in Magento Connect promo video, “Magento Connect isn’t new, but it is improved”.
One of the major changes is related to Magento Go. Now the online merchants using this platform can access extensions and customize their stores easier.
Another innovation called Trusted Extensions is the golden standard for premium extensions for both Magento and Magento Go platforms.
In terms of growth, the extensions for Search & Navigation (+34 in comparison with September), Checkout (+29), Content Management (+21), and Customer Service (+19) are the leading ones. These useful tools provide Magento store owners with the new features to improve their stores’ functionality & usability, and increase their revenue.
One more modification is that the structure of extensions categories has been changed and diversified. In comparison with September, 26 new categories have appeared. In total, now all the extensions in Magento Connect can be found in 54 categories.
This way, the leaders in these newly-formed categories are the extensions for Category & Product Page Enhancements (93), UI Performance & Ajax (35), Images & Media and Social (33), Developer Tools and Server Performance & Caching (27).
But some things aren’t so perfect. For instance, it is not possible to check the overall number of themes for Magento. Sure, you can calculate them manually, but it is not convenient and time consuming.
Also, there are categories with nearly the same meaning, like “Shipping” and “Shipping & Fulfillment” or “Social” and “Social & Marketing”. Perhaps, they might be integrated as one.
We hope that some improvements can be made, so we’ll be able to provide the Magento community with more detailed reports.
