How to Pay Less and Save a Lot of Money on aheadWorks Magento Extensions

From time to time aheadWorks Magento store visitors and blog readers can see our extensions available for PRE-ORDER. If you haven’t pre-ordered anything before, you wasted so much money, whereas you could save it.

In this post I’ll give you a solid $ reason to use the pre-order option whenever it is presented and describe the process behind the scenes.

How to Pay Less and Save a Lot of Money on aheadWorks Magento Extensions

Wikipedia defines a pre-order as “an order placed for an item which has not yet been released”. During the first half of the 2013 our customers have pre-ordered over 100 extensions among which the most popular were One Step Checkout, Add Free Product to Cart, Better Thank You Page, Extra Downloads.

Did users benefit from pre-orders? Absolutely! They saved up to 50% of the module price, and you can do the same. Read further how the pre-ordering option works for aheadWorks extensions and how to pay twice less for the module you need.

Mario SAM: “We Respect Extension Providers Who Speak to Brazilian Magento Community in Portuguese”

It’s so much fun to be a part of Magento universe. The United States, Magento cradle, is no longer a sole proprietor of Magento mainstream; this eCommerce platform has spread far overseas with many outstanding local leaders eager to share Magento wisdom. Mario SAM, one of the winners of “Magento PHP Developer’s Guide” in aheadWorks blog, is such a Magento activist in Brazil.

We have already published the post about Magento in Brazil by André Gugliotti in our blog. Mario will be glad to tell more about Brazilian Magento market and his expectations on its prospects.

Mario SAMHi, guys, I’m Mario SAM from mariosam.com.br. I’m Brazilian and never give it up!

I started working with eCommerce in 2006, even created my own eCommerce system fully in J2EE (Java). Back then I was in love with the code and had been teaching Taekwondo classes.

When Magento was released in 2008, I accepted the possibility to abandon my project and fully dedicate myself to the business.

Mario, how did you decide to launch a website with Magento tips?

I had a site about technology in general, where I talked a little about everything I did – JavaScript, CSS, XML, PHP, Java, SQL, etc… the blog was a mess of information.

Later I noticed that Magento-related posts began to gain prominence. Besides, it was very difficult to find Magento tutorials in Portuguese, so I thought of creating exclusive blog tips for Brazilian Magento audience by myself. The blog was a success and won the TOPBLOG 2010 technology.

How do you recognize what tips should be posted?

At first, I reviewed frequently asked Magento questions on the forums and used them to write posts. To my surprise, the most simple and very basic Magento tips are the ones that generate more page views.

The Talk With Kuba Zwoliński: “I Can Honestly Say There Are Many Ideas For Online Businesses in Poland”

A world without borders makes it easy to spread the popularity of eCommerce businesses like fire. Just imagine – you can build a website from scratch and start selling novelties on it regardless of where you are from (though, you are dependent on local legislation and Internet connection quality). The same is true for developers: if they specialize in eCommerce development, it automatically means they are demanded throughout the globe.

Seeing how Magento expands further and further, I can’t help thinking of other corners of the world and their possible response to Magento invasion. For this purpose and also to learn how difficult/prestigious/risky it is to build eCommerce businesses in particular countries, we cover them step by step in our blog:

This time I virtually move to Poland to meet Kuba Zwoliński, a founder of Snowdog company (we are glad to have Snowdog as aheadWorks official partner!), Magento eCommerce consultant and organizer of the First Meet Magento Poland. We talk about his acquaintance with Magento, Polish eCommerce in general and the way he worked on Meet Magento PL.

Magento PHP Developer’s Guide: Detailed Review from aheadWorks Experts

Magento PHP Developer's Guide

We were lucky to get one of a few copies of “Magento PHP Developer’s Guide“. It was published in April 2013 by Packt Publishing Ltd., one of the most prolific and fast-growing tech book publishers in the world.

Allan MacGregor, the author of “Magento PHP Developer’s Guide”, has a reputation for being professional, skilled and accurate developer easy to work with. I have happened to communicate with Allan and I should say that he is very responsive and friendly as well.

Allan MacGregor started working with Magento when he was a freelance developer little over 4 years ago and now he is a Magento Certified Developer Plus.

“Before Magento, creating an ecommerce website was difficult, expensive and slow,” tells Allan. “Magento changed all that! I enjoy working with Magento because it’s challenging, the framework is very powerful and flexible. And overall, I have fun working with Magento!”

Allan understood that there was a lot of information online, but he felt that there was a need for book that was an easy entry point for new developers and a bit of reference for developers that are not so new to Magento.

“I wanted to write the book that I wished I had when I was starting with Magento. A guide that covers the fundamentals, that gives me the tools to start developing with Magento.”

And Allan did it. Though it was his first writing experience, “Magento PHP Developer’s Guide” turned to be an easily accessible tutorial, designed and written to give the reader maximum understanding of the powerful Magento framework.

Migration to Magento: Is It Gonna Be a Bumpy Ride?

Editor’s Note: This post is provided for our blog by Mariana Onysko, Head of Marketing Department at MagneticOne. We are working on making aheadWorks blog a true Magento herald, where companies can highlight existing Magento issues and their ways to solve them. This article contains recommendations for merchants to consider from our Ukrainian colleagues while migrating to Magento and pitfall to be aware of.

One of the established eCommerce tendencies of 2013 is the Great Migration of the stores. 49% of today’s online merchants have considered switching their current shopping solutions within the next 2 years. Almost a half of store owners migrating today chooses Magento as their new eCommerce destination.

Nothing weird that Magento totally conquers the world with its vastness and magnificence. The widest functionality, hence unlimited possibilities, free and open source allow doing whatever you wish for free. Still, all these benefits can become a real problem when it comes to data migration.

What should you be ready for?

So, you’ve decided to migrate to Magento? No matter which way you’ll choose to do it, there are a couple of issues you had better considered.

eCommerce in the Netherlands: Be Aware of Local Laws and Offer Prevailing Dutch Payment Solution

Editor’s Note: This post is provided exclusively for our blog by Guido Jansen, Magento Evangelist and eBusiness consultant at ISM eCompany, one of the largest Magento companies in the Netherlands. Guido is deeply involved in the Magento community since 2008 and is one of Dutchento community founders.

Since 2003 I was involved in several open source projects, doing mainly consultancy and some project management besides my Psychology studies. I started the online Dutch Joomla! community in 2004 and also organized national events for that community. In 2008 I came into contact with Magento and was really enthusiastic about it right from the start. Since people with webshops on Magento purposefully earn money with it (which is not always the case with a regular Joomla! website), budgets for developing Magento webshops are much higher, and thus, it is more interesting market.

I copied the Joomla! model to Magento and started a local online community, organizing national events andhttps://www.aheadworks.com/blog/tag/dutchento/ doing consultancy work.

Magento position in the Netherlands

Despite the economy being at a low point, eCommerce is still growing in the Netherlands. There’s a great interest in the Netherlands for Magento and related services. For instance, if you use Google Insights to track interest for “Magento” in the last 12 months, you’ll see the Netherlands on top.

The App Factory Does Not Plan to Compete with Magento Connect

Thomas_FleckEditor’s Note: This post is provided exclusively for our blog by Thomas Fleck, CEO of the Netresearch App Factory.

I believe, you have already heard about the App Factory marketplace and now you wonder what it really is and how it is related to Magento Connect – rival or affiliate? Today I’ll give you the answers to these questions and explain how we accept modules in there.

The App Factory is a platform for Magento extensions, operated by Netresearch. We worked as a Magento Enterprise Partner in the past and currently we are a Preferred Extension Development Partner of Magento. Furthermore, we are organizing lots of Magento events like Meet Magento Germany, Meet Magento Brazil, Developers Paradise and will keep aheadWorks blog readers posted about the upcoming meetups.

What is the App Factory?

My Impressions on Magento Hackathon in Berlin: Everything Just Felt Right and Comfortable

Editor’s Note: This post is provided exclusively for our blog by Fabian Blechschmidt, a Magento Certified developer, organizer and one of participants at Magento Hackathon in Berlin.

My dreams and expectations mentioned in the blog post about Magento Hackathon in Berlin came true. I realized that it is easy to make Magento hackers happy: give them tables, electricity, Wi-Fi and the list of projects. And the freedom to decide what to do.

What we had and what we’ve done:

– around 2 days of hard hacking

34 awesome Magento developers

– built/extended 13 GitHub repositories. You can get acquainted with all projects here on GitHub.

The Dependency Injection and Magento report by Tim Bezhashvyly and the presentation of Karl Spies about doing Git right are also available.
